TES books editor Geraldine Brennan on the inside literary track

Missing Richard and Judy’s book club due to the demands of the timetable? Visit www.lovereading.co.uk to download extracts from the first five books to be featured up to February 15. The site also invites readers to vote for next Tuesday’s overall Whitbread winner by downloading and comparing the first chapters of the category winners, unfortunately leaving out the children’s category. Lovereading also reminds us to do the World Book Day (March 2) happy endings questionnaire on www.worldbookday.com, which invites readers to ponder on endings they would like to change, from 1984 to Anna Karenina. That’s also where secondary schools and pre-school services can register for schools packs and pound;1 book tokens for pupils (these are being sent to primary schools automatically). This year’s pound;1 books being produced for the day include a newly commissioned story from Darren Shan.
