* Richard Dowson, formerly a teacher at King Edward VI school, Retford, Nottinghamshire, was this week found guilty of serious professional incompetence by the council after failing to meet a series of improvement targets set for him by the school under formal competence procedures. He will have to undergo retraining before being allowed back to the classroom.
