The future of the troubled Ridings School in Halifax, West Yorkshire, will be decided next week. Calderdale Council’s cabinet is being recommended to close the school by summer 2009. The school first hit the headlines in 1996 just a year after it openedwhen teachers walked out over 61 ‘unteachable’ pupils. It is in special measures and there are 383 pupils at the school, which has a capacity of more than 800.
