THE political parties were challenged today to include in their manifestos support for a legal entitlement for every worker to a minimum amount of paid educational leave.
The Campaign For Paid Educational Leave was launched with the support of 56 MPs, the Trades Union Congress, the Open University, and unions representing lecturers, public service workers, shopworkers, and people in financial services.
Rihard Blakeley, campaign spokesperson, said: “Today we are challenging all the political parties to think creatively about their policies for workforce training and skills development in their forthcoming manifestos. We believe that only a statutory right to paid educational leave will begin to tackle the massive skills shortages in some sectors of the economy and our public services.”
