CANADA: Researchers have found that a curriculum that includes educating students about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child reduces bullying by 20 per cent. The study of 176 11 and 13-year-olds in Nova Scotia confirmed three previous studies and is supported by new research covering 900 students to be published this winter.
While a control group understood rights to be freedoms for themselves, the group studying the “human rights curriculum” understood them to include respect for others’ rights. Full story: www.tes.co.uk
