Keep the satirical definitions of education jargon coming. Our favourite this week defines “rigour” in the school curriculum: “Confining studies to areas where the pupils’ work is either right or wrong. The rigour appears to inhere in the learning rather than the teaching, which requires of its practitioners censoriousness and concentration on detail but little imaginative effort or interest in technique.” No prize, though, because it appears to come from a 1970s’ dictionary of jargon.
