The number of students accepted for higher education courses in Scottish universities and colleges has risen by 11.4 per cent this year, to 37,735. This is marginally less than the 11.9 per cent rise for the UK as a whole. The changing nature of the HE population is shown in the 21.4 per cent increase among those aged 25-plus, compared with only 8.5 per cent more for the under-20s.
