The number of pupils in England being educated in schools of more than 2,000 has nearly quadrupled since 1997, according to government figures. In 2007 there were 47,540 pupils attending the super-sized institutions, dubbed “titan schools” by the Conservatives, compared to just 12,650 a decade before. Michael Gove, the shadow schools secretary said: “All the evidence is that some of the toughest problems with discipline are found in the larger schools.”
