Word reaches us of a study at Paisley University in one of the more-startling press releases to land on our desk, headed: “Research reveals post-orgasmic prolactin increase following intercourse is far greater than following masturbation.” Punchy or what?

Stuart Brody, the prof who has been delving into this tricky area, concludes there are therefore “significant physiological and psychological benefits associated uniquely with penile-vaginal intercourse”.

This, he added, amounted to “hard evidence”.
