Who?

Peter Haylock is deputy headteacher responsible for assessment and intervention at Fulham Cross Girls’ School and Language College, southwest London.

Why?

Peter enrolled on the Future Leaders programme in 2008, having joined Fulham Cross the previous year. In his role as an assistant headteacher he was responsible for leading on assessment and intervention, with a particular focus on improving GCSE results. Peter grabbed the opportunity with both hands and has worked tirelessly with his senior leadership team and other colleagues to help the pupils achieve their potential.

Together with his colleagues, Peter has devised a series of initiatives to help pupils, including additional homework and exam practice and core revision subject days. Throughout his time at the school, Peter’s subtle, friendly and persistent interactions with pupils and colleagues alike have taken learning to another level for the school.

The results speak for themselves. In 2009, 71 per cent of pupils achieved five GCSEs A*-C, including English and maths - an increase of 23 per cent on the 2008 results. Peter’s hard efforts were rewarded when he was appointed deputy headteacher in September last year.

Determined that every single girl will succeed, he will do whatever it takes to support them and the energy and effort he has spent is testament to that. He is undoubtedly destined for headship and will make an outstanding school leader.”
