Rising star - Sue Relph

She is a key stage 1 teacher but will be acting head at Brockton CofE Primary School, Shropshire from January 2010.

Sue joined the school four years ago as a newly qualified teacher. She teaches reception, Year 1 and Year 2. She immediately made her mark as an inspirational teacher. She is a great motivator of staff and is held in the highest regard by all the school community.

Above all, she makes learning fun, organising lots of exciting activities for the children. She has used the local playground and farmers' market for maths lessons. She also bravely organises an annual walk on the local Shropshire hills, followed by an overnight camp for key stage 1 pupils.

Despite having taught for a relatively short time, she was appointed to be acting head from 2010, bringing the management skills she gained from her previous post as navigator in the RAF to her school leadership role.

Sue always finds the time to support colleagues, especially in her specialism, ICT. Despite working hard to achieve her NPQH, she also set up a school website and developed a new outdoor learning centre.

Her attention to detail and determination to complete a task leave the staff wondering how she can possibly have so much energy. She produces end of term concerts worthy of West End theatres and despite all her talents she always remains modest and approachable.

Headteacher Maureen Burns, who says: "Sue is a natural leader. She is a great motivator of staff and will make a superb head because she sets the highest standards in all she does."
