The White Scar Cave in Ingleton, North Yorkshire, is the longest show cave in Britain. Its most impressive feature is the 200,000 year-old Battlefield Cavern, which is over 330 feet long, with a roof soaring in places to 100 feet.

Other curious cave formations include: the Devil’s Tongue, Arum Lily, Crown of Thorns, Sword of Damocles and the lifelike Judge’s Head. An 80-minute guided tour covering one mile costs Pounds 2.45 per pupil. Details: 015242 41244.
