* Whatever the merits of synthetic phonics, it cannot be right that the Government can dictate what is taught and how it is taught.
Where would it end? Approved versions of history that airbrush out the Iraq war? With Mein Kampf or even The Da Vinci Code for the classroom? No doubt Ruth Kelly and Lord Adonis mean to use their powers well, but where are the checks to prevent abuse?
