The government has reissued a legal order to schools requiring them to provide immediate remote education for pupils who need to self-isolate because of Covid-19. Headteachers have described the move as “unnecessary” and “unhelpful”.

The government is also recruiting “attendance advisers”  - paid up to £500 a day - to work with local authorities and multi-academy trusts on cutting school absence rates in areas where these are higher than average.
