The decision to map a footpath that runs within 10 yards of a rural school in Wiltshire has angered the headteacher and governing body.
Despite fierce local opposition and concerns over the implications for security at Wardour primary school, near Tisbury, members of Wiltshire planning and rights of way sub-committee rejected the application for a diversion order when voting to add the path to the area’s definitive map.
The decision has been described by head Trish Cussons as “unbelievable”: “We just can’t understand it, particularly in view of the new government guidelines on security.”
