Ayrshire schools rugby has been boosted by the appointment of three development officers for the area. Ross Gillies, Glen Tippet and Chris Murphy will fill the posts in North, South and East Ayrshire respectively.

Mr Gillies will look after 10 secondary schools and 58 primary schools in his area, which will involve work with Ardrossan, Garnock, Irvine and the Isle of Arran clubs.

“I am working on a programme and hope to visit the schools as regularly as I can and tie in with the summer rugby festivals,” he says.

Mr Tippet, a New Zealander, captains Ayr Rugby Club and will be based in the town at the Whitletts Activity Centre.

Mr Murphy will be based in Kilmarnock and have nine secondary schools and 50 primary schools under his wing.
