Stewart's Melville College, the holders of the Bell Lawrie Scottish Schools Under-18 Cup, will travel to Newton Stewart to face Douglas Ewart High in this season's second round.

Merchiston Castle ended Dollar Academy's seven-year unbeaten home record by beating them 26-14 in a challenge match.

Recently, Scottish Rugby honoured 16 of its new community coaches, who completed their Scottish Vocational Qualification, with a ceremony at Rosehall High in Coatbridge. The coaches have been working in the schools and the governing body sees the contribution as vital to the future of rugby.

Morton Houston, youth president of Cumnock Rugby Club, summed up Scottish Rugby's feelings when he said: "Having an SVQ apprentice has been crucial to the development of mini and midi rugby at Cumnock over the past two years. It's doubtful that we would have had the time or opportunity to get into as many local schools as he has."
