The Scottish Rugby Union has announced the appointment of two development officers as it seeks to improve the readiness of young players for the professional game.

Jonathan Phillips, aged 37, has being appointed academy manager for Caledonia and will oversee the development of the best 15 to 21-year-olds in the Highlands and Islands, Inverness, Dundee, Perth, Stirling and Fife.

John Peggie, aged 29, has been appointed development officer in the Highlands and Islands and so leaves his rugby development post with West Lothian Council.

“The posts will mean that, with the continuing support of clubs and schools, we’re able to harness the talented players in Caledonia and advance their readiness for the upper levels of the game,” says SRU director of rugby Jim Telfer.
