In an attempt to demonstrate that public private partnerships are not “the only game in town”, ministers announced this week that they will put another pound;26.7 million into the school building improvement fund, to be spent on repairs and maintenance.
This is in addition to pound;12 million committed to the fund and ranges from pound;2.7 million for Glasgow to pound;174,000 for Orkney.
These sums are in addition to the pound;150 million in capital expenditure which local authorities spend on school buildings, using conventional “borrowing consent”.
Councils find another pound;80-pound;100 million out of revenue budgets for maintenance and repairs.
