They don’t do put-downs like they used to. Edinburgh yooni’s education dean, Pamela Munn (nee Ryan), was underlining to final-year students at Moray House the importance of schools turning out “confident individuals”, in line with the famous mantra from A Curriculum for Excellence.
Recalling her own reticence at university, Munn revealed her tutor’s withering query: “Miss Ryan, are you going to keep quiet all the time and let people think you are a fool, or will you speak up and put the matter beyond doubt?”
