I would like to thank you for Joseph Lee’s article and your thoughtful and positive editorial (FE Focus, March 13) on the issue of gangs in London. However, as we hope will be clear to readers of our report Tackling and Preventing Gang Problems in London Colleges, the headline “Youth gangs targeted as killings affect 1 in 8 London colleges” is not wholly supported by our research. Our survey found three colleges (out of 23 respondents) that were affected by killings, one of them thought to be personal and not gang related. The proportion of London’s 53 colleges affected by gang-related killings may, therefore, be no more than one in 27. Furthermore, as you rightly noted, there have been no murders on college premises.
