Eight out of 10 parents think the Government’s nursery voucher scheme should provide education for three-year-olds as well as four-year-olds, according to a survey of 1,000 parents by Safeway.

The supermarket chain, which this week launched a two-year campaign to raise Pounds 2 million to subsidise pre-school places, also found that one in four parents could not afford pre-school education for their children, although most were aware of the advantages.
