To Holyrood, where Iain Smith of the Liberal Democrats is making his maiden speech as convener of the parliamentary education committee.

“As politicians,” Smith asserted, “we should not go telling teachers how to teach, anymore than we would tell an airline pilot how to fly a plane or a brain surgeon how to conduct an operation.”

“Sam Galbraith could do that,” interrupted the Blue Trot himself, Brian Monteith, ex-Tory education spokesman.

We never knew Galbraith could fly. Head in the clouds maybe . . .
