The Berlin research forum, Education and Society (WIFO) has set up a multilingual website on vocational education at: http:www.b.shuttle.dewifoindex.htm It covers national and international projects, Europe-wide themes and networks and gives researchers’ names and addresses. An effort has been made to group material together when (despite different terminology or systems) the same issues such as “core skills” are being tackled.

I was interested to pick up references to employers’ key skills demands on Tyneside and in the Netherlands. Both seem interested in more than narrow utility.

The WIFO website is detailed and complex, and new material is being added regularly.

* Education researchers who wish to disseminate their findings in The TES should send summaries (750 words max) to David Budge, research editor, The TES, Admiral House, 66-68 East Smithfield, London E1 9XY. Tel 0171 7823276.
