Samana Fazel, 14, of Babington Community College, Leicester, has won a visit to South Korea next year in a national essay -writing contest sponsored by The TES, the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies, the Korean Embassy and Daewoo. Her essay will be published in next weeks’ TES.

Results: Grand prize: Samana Fazel. First runners-up: Michael Gordon Mullender, The Blue Coat School, Oldham (13-15 age group); Anna Davies, King Edward Camp Hill School for Girls, Birmingham (16-19). Second runners-up: Marie Chivers, St Mary’s Grammar School, County Derry (13-15); Yune Robert Choi, Monmouth School (13-15); Andrew Primrose, Cheltenham College(16-19); Henry Alexander Way, Monmouth School(16-19).
