Nothing says Christmas like a 2km run in a heavy felt suit, which is why the geniuses behind the Santa Run have this year expanded their extravaganza to encompass Leicester, Torquay, Nottingham and Edinburgh.

The deal is members of the public do the race dressed as St Nicholas to raise funds for When You Wish Upon A Star, a charity that makes dreams come true for children with life-threatening illnesses.

If you’re against making dreams come true for children with life-threatening illnesses, you can always take part in the run in a stolen Santa suit and spend your sponsorship money on gin.

There’s also a Santa’s Little Helper Run for kids. Each entrant gets a free felt hat and the satisfaction of knowing they’ve made a difference. And they got a hat out of it. Magic.

The first event kicks off in Leicester’s Victoria Park on December 2.
