Scarecrow recruits battle primary axe

A village in the Yorkshire Dales has enlisted unusual allies in the battle to keep its primary school: scarecrows. Kettlewell Primary School could face closure under restructuring plans for Upper Wharfedale by North Yorkshire County Council. Exhibits from the annual Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival have been set up in the village, with scarecrows in school uniform holding signs saying “Save Our School”. The festival was founded in 1994 with the aim of raising money for the school.
