The man responsible for overseeing Building Schools for the Future, Labour’s axed but much-lamented secondary-school rebuilding programme, has resigned. Tim Byles, chief executive of Partnerships for Schools, will leave his post next week after nearly five years at the helm. He will head up a new social enterprise called Cornerstone. Mr Byles said: “I have always believed in the value of delivering public services using the disciplines of the private sector and I look forward to developing that principle in my next venture, which will bring together the very best of the private, public and third sectors in a new breed of social investment company.”
