School fails to make the grade

Glancing .through the jobs section in last week’s TES, the Diary’s eye was caught by an ad for a language college co-ordinator at Ashfield school in Nottinghamshire. Nothing wrong with the job, or the money . (an extra Pounds 6,500 plus pound;1,002 “incentive”) but the managerial grade used to describe it - TLR3 - is pure fantasy.

But Ashfield head Ian Fraser denies that his school is either muddled or creative about pay grades.J “A typographical mistake” is his explanation.J Surely not committed by The TES? Quite simply, TLR3 just does not exist .

Perhaps Ashfield is simply keen on high numbers. It is a school with not one but four specialisms, describing itself as “a specialist technology, vocational, language college and training school”.
