Teachers with innovative ideas about delivering sex and relationships education have been invited to try and help shape the way that the subject is taught in schools.
Two leading sexual health charities are looking for the best examples of sex and relationships education (SRE) lessons in order to present them to policymakers.
Following the government’s decision earlier this year to make SRE statutory in all schools in England, charities Brook and FPA are inviting teachers to send in successful SRE programmes.
These will be examined by a group of pupil volunteers working for Brook. The best examples will then be featured in a report to the government, intended to highlight the best in national sex education.
Helen Marshall, chief executive of Brook, said: “So often, we hear stories about relationships and sex education in schools being inconsistent and poor quality.
"By launching this campaign, we are delighted to give teachers and professionals the opportunity to promote and share their positive examples with policy makers, and help shape the future for young people.”
SRE will be statutory in English schools from 2019. The charities intend for their collection of case studies to provide a guide for policymakers, to help them in developing guidance for schools.
“We’re keen to make sure that the decision-makers are aware of the very best programmes delivered by teachers or external providers,” said Natika Halil, chief executive of FPA.
To nominate an SRE programme or lesson, complete the online nomination form. The deadline for entries is 31 July.
