10 reasons not to panic ahead of Sats results

Sats panic
For those who haven’t already got them, Sats results are due back tomorrow. When you’re faced with that metaphorical scary brown envelope, remember:
  1. Don’t panic.
  2. If they're worse than expected, look carefully at whether an appeal is a good idea. If you think there's something wrong with the way the papers were marked – or if there has been a clerical error, such as marks being added together incorrectly – then this is definitely an option.
  3. Appeal applications must be made by a headteacher or delegated senior member of staff by Friday July 17 through the NCA tools website
  4. Schools will be notified of the outcome of reviews on 4 September.
  5. Which means you have the whole of the summer holidays to wait.
  6. If your results are better than expected, try not to look too surprised. Remember, you always had faith that your pupils would come good in the end.
  7. Wave goodbye to your Year 6 leavers and try not to cry.
  8. None of them will remember how fruit growers in California tried to solve the problem of scale insects before ladybirds were introduced anyway. [They burned the trees – 1 mark]
  9. Some of them will remember how you comforted them and made them feel a lot better when they got their marks…
  10. …and how you taught them that the first thing to remember when you’re in an emergency is don’t panic.
So remember: don’t panic.
