Congratulations to Falkirk. Last Wednesday must surely be the first occasion when a Scottish education authority became the subject of a leading article in the Daily Telegraph. Alas, the item headed “A bad example” was not complimentary as it tore into the council’s “mealy mouthed” handling of the “love triangle” involving three teachers at St Mungo’s High.
Matters could never have reached such a pass, the Telegraph opined, “in a school which, as all schools should, ran itself”. Clearly only opted-out or independent schools inherit the pure. Perhaps the new training modules for headteachers will now include one on “coping with scandal”.
