Former international cricket umpire Dickie Bird said this week that the lack of sport in schools was affecting the future of national teams.

He was speaking at the launch of the Dickie Bird Foundation, a national charity started with his own money to help less privileged youngsters under the age of18 to participate in sport.

“We’ve got to get cricket back into schools. I think that’s a must,” said Mr Bird. “We’ve got to do as much as we possibly can for the youth in this country, for they are the future of every sport.”
