Dulwich High school for boys, one of the 18 schools “named and shamed” by the Government, was granted a reprieve at a special meeting of Southwark education committee on Tuesday, confounding speculation that it would be closed. Two weeks ago, the Government said it was making “reasonable” progress and let Southwark decide its future.

The school has suffered from falling pupil numbers, but GSCE results this year were encouraging and it is the most-improved school in the authority.
