Ewan Aitken writes of his inspiration when visiting a Roman Catholic primary school in Edinburgh where belief was at the centre of everyday life.

“We might or might not agree with it or believe in it ourselves, but everyone knows where the values of that school are rooted,” he says. But the solution is not more faith schools, where belief would be “boxed in”.
