A school’s ban on unconventional hairstyles, including cornrows, has resulted in “unlawful, indirect racial discrimination which is not justified”, the High Court has ruled. The decision is a victory for the family of an African-Caribbean 13-year-old who wears his hair in cornrows as a family tradition and was refused entry to St Gregory’s Catholic Science College, Harrow, in September 2009.
