Children who have not had the MMR vaccine should not be allowed to attend school, a public health director has said. Dr Sohail Bhatti, head of public health in East Lancashire, said he was discussing “radical” ways to protect more children against measles, mumps and rubella. His suggestion has been criticised by other health experts as a “totalitarian” measure. Dr Bhatti made the call after NHS East Lancashire was told it needed to make “special efforts” to enhance vaccination rates.
