Schools strike over academy plans

Teachers at two schools in Coventry went on strike this week over plans for their schools to convert to academy status. Members of the NUT and NASUWT unions at Tile Hill Wood School and Woodlands School staged a two-day walkout, forcing the schools to shut. Jane Nellist, joint secretary of Coventry branch of the NUT, said the action had been taken to protest against threats to staff terms and conditions.
