National Science and Engineering Week 2009 (March 6-15) will kick off with a major celebration of the science and engineering achievements of young people - The Big Bang, the UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair.
Based in London and featuring exciting shows, exhibitions, demonstrations and workshops across the entire science and engineering spectrum, this landmark event will see two 13 to 19 year-olds win the new National Science Competition and be crowned UK Young Scientist of the Year and UK Young Technologist of the Year. The 2009 theme for the week is “Change”, complementing the Darwin200 activities to celebrate the life and work of Charles Darwin.
Events range from the serious to the seriously funny: from a look at biological aspects of teenagers’ behaviour and poetry readings from Ruth Padel (great-great-grand-daughter of Darwin), to cartoon science and Geek Pop, the world’s only sci-pop festival.
The event is also highlighting the Save Our Bees campaign, which aims to make people more aware of what individuals can do to make a difference to their survival in the UK.
