Science teaching has been boosted by the opening of three new classrooms at Edinburgh’s Our Dynamic Earth, which will bring the subject together with music, drama and storytelling.

Some Pounds 300,000 in funding will allow the science centre’s education service to handle an extra 20 children an hour. Schools and Skills Minister Keith Brown said the classrooms, which are designed to tie in with A Curriculum for Excellence, would encourage more children to pursue science careers. The new classrooms, which can accommodate 65 children an hour, have been funded by Pounds 186,000 from the Scottish Government, Pounds 85,000 from Dynamic Earth Charitable Trust, and Pounds 30,000 from The Robertson Trust.

A recent government survey showed that science centres such as Our Dynamic Earth boosted learning.
