I was delighted to read Douglas Blane’s article on the final of the “Be An Inventor” challenge in last week’s The TES Scotland. It was a very positive article that dealt with the challenge as a serious educational project and not a story about eccentric kids with funny ideas.

Creativity in the primary curriculum is rarely dealt with and the importance of the primary school teacher in laying the foundations is never acknowledged publicly.

It is for us to encourage young people to embrace science and technology and to be aware of the work done in primary schools.

Well done, TESS in showing the broadsheets how to treat a subject seriously - an excellent piece of journalism.
