Glasgow Science Centre has launched its first scholarship programme.

The educational charity has entered into a five-year partnership with Glasgow University’s psychology department to allow one outstanding undergraduate to carry out a research project lasting six to 10 weeks. The department will provide financial and academic support, while the science centre will offer access to its resources and technical support.

Centre director Robin Hoyle explained that it made sense to build on the enthusiasm for science generated among children at the centre, by reaching into higher education.

Rob Jenkins, of Glasgow University’s psychology department, said the scheme was a “unique opportunity” to get out of the lab and conduct research in a public setting, and to communicate science to non- specialists.
