World Environment Day

Founded by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, World Environment Day (5 June) asks people across the globe to reflect on how they can help the planet. Raise awareness in school about this year’s theme, “Green Economy: does it include you?”, with the TES World Environment Day collection.

What does it include?

Primary: Pupils can report the facts with a global warming newspaper project, or role play as school inspectors and analyse how sustainable your site is. Alternatively, read a story and discuss who is responsible for climate change and natural disasters.

Secondary: Find out how green your pupils are with a quick quiz, explore a real-life energy problem through debate and role play, or get creative with a design project on the 6Rs (rethink, reduce, refuse, reuse, recycle and repair) and make a sustainable bag.

What else?

Online education community Project Earth has invited schools to share their environmental projects for the chance to win Best UK School Project at the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in June. For more information visit www.projectearth.net.
