A bursary scheme which enables senior pupils to work alongside scientists, engineers and mathematicians is open for applications.

The Nuffield bursary scheme is aimed at S5 pupils who are interested in the sciences, technology, engineering andor mathematics.

It allows the students to carry out a four- to six-week research or development project in universities, colleges, industry and research or conservation organisations during the summer holidays.

Students’ projects must be well defined from the start, have an outcome that is achievable within the time available and make a contribution to the work of the host organisation.

Successful applicants will be offered projects by a local co-ordinator or can set up their own placements. They will receive a bursary payment of pound;80 per week and be required to submit a report at the end of their placement.
