A WAR has broken out in Scotland over the drive to overhaul teachers’ pay and conditions. Unions have rejected a plan which increases average salaries by 14.7 per cent but ushers in a controversial new super teacher grade and reduces individual teacher autonomy. The Convention for Scottish Local Authorities unveiled its improved pound;200 million pay offer last Friday following widespread opposition to an earlier plan in March. But unions oppose plans giving head teachers the right to direct how teachers use non-contact time. They have also condemned a new “professional leader” senior teacher grade as badly thought out.
