A new book of Doric poetry, Fit Like, Yer Majesty? has been launched at Fyvie Castle, with pupils from Aberdeenshire, Aberdeen and Moray helping to bring to life some of the featured poems.

The book contains 47 poems, selected by an editorial committee including weel-kent writers Sheena Blackhall, Les Wheeler and Bill Burnett.

More than 200 poems were submitted for inclusion by aspiring scribes, aged 14 to 92. Artist Bob Dewar has produced 59 illustrations to complement the poems. The foreword is written by Schools Minister Maureen Watt.

The initiative was led by Aberdeen City Council’s Reading Bus, in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council, Moray Council and Aberdeen University.

Aberdeen Students’ Charities Campaign and the Scottish Arts Council provided the funding for the project.
