Children at Gargieston Primary in East Ayrshire enjoyed a week of Scottish activities at the end of January, with the help of local businesses. All the early years classes were involved, as the nursery, P1s and 2s made shortbread and pancakes on Monday, Scotch broth on Tuesday, and on Wednesday, were entertained by pipers from Auchinleck Academy, and learned about tartan. On Thursday, Linda Strachan, author of the Hamish McHaggis books, talked about words and places; and on Friday, they had a demonstration of country dancing, enjoyed poems, and songs, and tasted haggis, oatcakes and porridge.
