At a time when Islam is under extreme scrutiny in the West, an exhibition in Birmingham is striving to create a greater understanding and awareness of the religion and those who practise it. The Islamic Experience exhibition has been touring the UK and Ireland since 1995 and has now found a permanent home in Small Heath, Birmingham. The interactive exhibition has been developed jointly by the Iqra Trust, a Muslim educational charity, and the religious organisation IPCI. It presents information on the religion’s history, practices and Islamic family life, and provides an Islamic slant to science and the environment. Entry is free to schools, and workshops such as “Islamic art” are available. The Islamic Experience exhibition will be officially opened on October 15.
