A project to talent-spot future headteachers is to start in 10 local authorities later this month.
The National College for School Leadership is assigning a “leadership consultant” to each area to provide career guidance and training for teachers who could become good heads.
They will also work with councils and dioceses and collect data on heads who are due to retire in the next decade and teachers who have the National Professional Qualification for Headship.
The 10 areas are the Black Country consortium; Birmingham; Blackburn with Darwen; Devon; Hampshire; Hackney; Islington; Sheffield; Rochdale; and the Roman Catholic diocese of Hexham and Newcastle.
