After 13 years of learning the hard way about self-sufficiency and soil improvement, former teachers Moira and Cameron Thomson set up the Seer (sustainable ecological earth regeneration) Centre at Ceanghline Farm in 1997.

Since then, the success of the crops grown on this formerly infertile land 950ft above sea level has attracted grants and awards, most recently from the Scottish Executive, which is funding a three-year scientific study of the centre’s methods by Glasgow University.

School visits to the Seer Centre are welcome by arrangement. (Wear gardening clothes and wellies.) Contact Moira Thomson, The Seer Centre Trust, tel 01250 881486 www.seercentre.org.uk
